Located on Farewell Street and N. Baptist St. is the Coddington or Governors Burying Ground. William Coddington original English settler on this land, placed it under the control of the Newport Quaker Meeting. The stone wall around the site was added in 1896. Of the ninety four burials known here fifty eight inscribed stones remain. Six colonial governors of Rhode Island are buried here including:

John Easton (1705)
John Wanton (1740)
